Shannon Flaherty, Poetry Editor

Shannon is in her second year of Creative Writing at UVic. She interned with This Side of West last year and has recently been upgraded to poetry editor. She has a poem in Eber & Wein’s upcoming anthology, Upon Arrival, and received an honourable mention in the Times Colonist Flash Fiction Contest for a few paragraphs about a girl without bones. Shannon is a yoga instructor, avid bookworm and nature lover. She delights in many creative endeavours from painting to playing piano and has an uncanny knack for getting lost.

Stephanie Toth, Editor in Chief

Stephanie doesn’t want to talk about which year of her degree she’s in, but she’s almost done. She has been a member of the TSOW team since 2014, when she worked as a poetry editor. She has received the Maurice Hodgson Creative Writing Award of Distinction, the Millen Undergraduate Award, and the Robert and Norah Wallace Commemorative Scholarship for her writing. Her other interests include design, architecture, printmaking, and coffee, but poetry will always be her first and truest love.

Launch Party

Issue 14 is on its way, and we’re so excited to share it with all of you! We’ll be launching this year’s issue at Copper Owl on April 8th. Authors from all four genres will be reading, and we’ll also be interviewing some of the visual artists we’re publishing this year. Afterwards, Cathedral Bloom and Christmas Jeans will give us some sweet, sweet music to dance to. What a time! Come have a drink, support local literature, and have a great time with us.

We’ll be selling tickets on campus beginning next week. If you can’t catch up with us, shoot us an email at thissideofwest@gmail.com to reserve a ticket.
$10 in advance, $12 at the door.
Or $20 for a ticket + a shiny brand new Issue 14. What a deal!

TSOW Editors’ Reading

Our annual Editors’ Reading had an amazing turnout this year! We heard readings from our lovely editors, and music from Dry Williams. A good time was had by all. Thanks to Deluge Contemporary Art for hosting us.

Thanks to everyone for coming out. Look forward to more events in the coming year!
